The good news is that they now have a great relationship and the rider no longer thinks the horse dislikes her.
Anyway, to cut a long story short I worked with the two of them and soon discovered that the problem wasn’t actually the horse but it was the way she was interacting with her. This upset me because I’d known the rider a long time and had never known her to be like this about a horse before. She’d decided to give her one last try but if that didn’t work then she was going to sell her. I was recently working with a rider who insisted her horse hated her, in a tearful voice she told me she’d tried everything but that nothing had worked.
